If you don’t see what’s wrong with being a Nice Guy, it’s this: despite your “nice” actions, you are still living under the assumption that how you treat a woman entitles you to some sort of appreciation, or some part of her body. If you haven’t noticed by now, this makes you an asshole, too.

Fuck this article! I am a nice guy. I believe women, all women (not just the ones I’m interested in romantically) should be treated with respect, not objectified, and be generally seen as equals. If I were to voice interest in one, and be turned down, I would not call her a “bitch” or a “slut” because of it, nor would I assume that she simply prefers to go out and fuck assholes. Such an assumption would be idiotic, and I like to think that I’m not (always) an idiot. But to lump all nice guys into this category of two-faced, entitled chauvinism is as insulting as lumping all women into the category of brainless meat for the sole purpose of procreation. It’s fallacious, it’s narrow-minded, and it speaks volumes about the level of intelligence of the person bold and dumb enough to actually publish an article on the subject.

Yeah, I have my moments of male foolishness. I check out women in bikinis, I might discuss with my male friends which celebrity I’d like to bend over a kitchen table, and I’m totally down with porn. I have the misfortune of being riddled with testosterone. But when it comes to actually interacting with a women on any sort of personal level, be it platonic or otherwise, I see them as nothing less than a human being with their own fully-functioning brains and emotions. I do not expect them to swoon for me just because I’m a man, or because I’m kind enough to let them speak without interrupting. That would be bullshit. Any guy who thinks along those lines, no matter how good a listener, how generous with gifts, or how patient with emotions, is not a nice guy. He’s a deluded asshole, no better at a primal level than someone who is physically or emotionally abusive. And to be so casually tossed into a pile along with men like that is something I find personally offensive.
